Virgin Needs A Shirt - Think Your Design is Good Enough
It's no secret Virgin is my favorite company. Everything they touch turns to gold & they seem to have an awesome time doing it. So I've been surprised they haven't taken to crowdsourcing more than the few one-off projects I've seen here & there. Luckily that changed when they launched a design contest on Australian site, DesignCrowd.
Virgin's project is simple: Create a t-shirt design. The brief is even simpler stating "We want you to design a t-shirt using one of the following taglines as text (please use this copy EXACTLY):" and then lists 16 phrases. A few of the phrases are clever like "I don't get active. I get awesome," "Branson is my homeboy," and "This shirt was tight on me 2 months ago," while a few were most likely included by an intern. The brief also suggests keeping the design typography focused and avoiding imagery. Virgin has done a great job providing a goal and direction for the shirt design while offering the actual design work up to the crowd.
The division procuring the shirt design is Virgin HealthMiles, a company that helps people get fit and healthy and rewards them for doing so.
The design contest ends in 3 days and offers $3,500 in guaranteed payouts spread across multiple winning designers. The project has already received 1,016 designs although most have been eliminated or withdrawn.
