A new crowdfunding platform has been launched to enable funds to be raised to promote social causes. Commercial advertising is a highly successful industry raking in revenues of over 400 billion US dollars every year. Big businesses do not hesitate to spend millions in advertising campaigns, as awareness about a product or service is the key to promoting the product.
Many NGOs and social activists promoting community welfare and social issues awareness would also greatly benefit with such advertisement campaigns, however the problem lies with a lack of funds for such campaigns. The Advert Activist site has been launched to tackle this problem.
Advert Activist is a crowdfunding site that relies on crowdsourcers to fund campaigns that are close to their heart. Create awareness on any social cause be it climate change, environmental concerns, energy conservation etc – by creating a campaign at Advert Activist.
When creating a campaign, the planner should outline the total funds required for the advertising project and the type of medium chosen to carry the message. A time frame will also be given to mark the deadline for when the funds will need to be donated. Crowdsourcers can pick up the causes that they feel closest to, and make their donations. The site gives activists the opportunity, previously unavailable due to the inhibitive advertisement expenses, to launch an awareness drive and potentially bring their message to millions.
Action Aid has already initiated a campaign plan against tax avoidance by a multi-national company in South Africa. Its action plan includes sending beer mats to the company in question, asking it to fulfill its tax obligations in its host country. As more and more socially beneficial campaigns are initiated and launched, the world might just awaken to major issues that were hitherto swept across the carpets due to a lack of publicity.
Hopefully there will be a positive response to this new initiative which has the power to make the world a better place.
