Independent Music Scene Documentary Turns to Crowdfunding for Support

Award-winning visual artist Muema has been working on a new documentary film about the electronic music scene. Filming has been completed; however, the project still needs funds for post-production work, so Muema is turning to a crowdfunding platform to help finish the film.

Whether it’s managing one of New York’s renowned music blogs BounceFM.com, or photographing some of the city’s biggest musical events, Muema has an established reputation for his knowledge and passion of New York’s art and culture scene. His photographs were featured in a 2011 Brooklyn Historical Society Exhibition and have appeared in some of the city’s numerous publications.

The film, entitled House Music Movie, has been in production for over four years and was filmed in locations around the world, including New York City, Ibiza, Los Angeles and London.  It also features interviews with some of the music scene’s legendary DJs like Tony Humphries, David Morales, Paul Trouble Anderson, Louie Vega and David Harness, as well as legendary singers Barbara Tucker and Joi Cardwell.

To help raise the $115 thousand needed to complete the film, Muema has turned to RocketHub, a New York-based crowdfunding platform. Aside from production and editing costs, Muema hopes to obtain archived records, which would help complete the project in time for a 2012 festival premier.

The project has 22 days left to raise the required funds, and to date only 2 percent has been pledged.  In exchange for donations, supporters will be receive an assortment of rewards, depending on the sum pledged,  including acknowledgements & thanks, limited edition merchandise, as well as special tours by the Muema himself.
